She's So Up!

Kind of in love with everything about these images from Nylon's September 2011 issue!  They put me in a fun cheery mood this morning even though I had to lug my luggage to work this morning, couldn't find a cab, apparently have allergies that I didn't know existed... it was just one of those kind of mornings...

But on a happier note, I'll be in LA in a few [hopefully short] hours!

Mellow and Happy

Have you ever been mellow?
Have you ever tried?
Have you ever been happy?
Have you ever tried?

Really- rather than me posting each song off of Netsky's self titled album, you should just go check it out on Spotify! Netsky – Netsky

Follow Me

Escaping is exactly what I'm looking forward to this weekend! Tomorrow I leave for a long weekend in California- LA, OC, maybe a little SD... what more could I need right now with loads of work and this lovely overcast plaguing Chicago currently?

Time to suitcase it up and have fun! I might even come back with a new hairdo... I tend to do that when I visit LA...

Did I mention it will be 85 and sunny on Friday? It's ok to be jealous...

Cinema

True -this song is by no means new, but also true? It's undeniable ability to get me bouncing- whether it be in my chair at work, walking down the street, or out at night!  Sure Skrillex's remix of this song has it's points of being pretty major (did you SEE the crowd lose it at North Coast Music Festival when Benassi played the remix?) but there's something about the more kindhearted, innocent... how else to put this... can opener sound-less original version.  Don't get me wrong, I appreciate a good amount of dubstep, but we can't deny that it sounds like 2 pieces of metal are grinding together faiirrrlllly often.  And on that note- "Cinema" by Benny Bennasi:

Illumination

SUPER excited to go to the Empire of the Sun and Miami Horror show at Congress Theater tomorrow- there's not much I love more than a night out with good music and good friends!  The Miami Horror CD "Illumination" really is something though- just the perfect combination of chill/bubbly-ness that I adore for oh so many occasions.  I definitely plan to be wearing some flats tomorrow for a serious dance party- can't wait!

Something about the album is a good fall transition soundtrack to me- makes me happy and hopeful as we move into the next season!

What do you think? Does the album mix well with these lovely fall pieces?

Help Me Feed Myself

Who doesn't love to give their opinion on something?  As my personal life has made some dramatic shifts lately I'm focusing on getting back to the basics as well as introducing some new spice to my life- enter new food recipes!  I am excited to start taking on a new recipe each week moving forward, and I would like you to help me select which recipe I will make each week!  I've added a nifty poll just underneath the About Me section on the right and want you to weigh in on the recipe being highlighted each week!  I'll eventually make every recipe that pops up in the poll, but I want to test recipes that you are interested in as well and share my sources and any tweaks I may make along the way!

This week it's a battle of the meat filled pasta dishes.

So get voting people, so I can get eating!

Swoon

I have always had a very strong connection to music.  As a kid I was fortunate enough to have parents who not only valued but also loved music themselves!  Whether it was my mom playing music in the kitchen or car, my dad playing music in his office [loudly I might add], or my mom encouraging my sister and me in piano, violin, and flute, music is something that all of us hold dear.  SO, when I describe how The Chemical Brother's song "Swoon" tugs on my heart strings like you wouldn't believe, it's only something you'll understand if you've ever been there.  I seriously find myself losing a breath each time the melody kicks in (and yes I feel silly admitting that).  No it's not a slow love ballad, but I like to think of it as a love ballad for a younger generation.  And if you don't think electronic music can evoke amazingly strong emotions- you have no idea what you're talking about.

Add the video to the soundtrack and forget about it- I'm in love.

Blame North Coast Music Festival

This 3-day holiday weekend typically spent with close friends and family will be spent with thousands of my closest strangers at North Coast Music Festival- and I couldn't be more excited! The forecast is giving a 40% chance of rain all weekend- but I'm prepared. Cheap clothing I don't care if I ruin? Check. Cheap lace-up boots that won't slip off when jumping in puddles? Check. Large plastic bag to house anything I seriously care about in the event of rain? Check.

See you in the mud puddles friends!

Is it Fall Yet?

I hate that I thought this- but after I saw this slew of photos of MK and A in giant furs... I just wanted it to be time for me to wear one as well! [Click photo to enlarge]

Kinda loving the clear lens glasses with the look... although I'm not sure I could rock THOSE exact glasses.

Do you love?
