Something about this futuristic warrior shoot for Samantha Cole London's appropriately titled "Warrior" collection from 2009 matched the fun quirkiness exhibited in the music video for Oh Land's song "Son of a Gun". I know the two might not have a super literal correlation, but I think the dark edginess juxtaposed with the light makes for an interesting match-up for the senses.
I've been noticing a change, and don't pretend like you haven't as well. There's this general shift towards informality, and I for one am not a fan of this. Take the Oscars last night. While there were a number of stunners on the red carpet, lets make one thing very clear- there is a serious lack of glamour in Hollywood these days. I expect my starlets to be the definition of fabulosity and I just am not seeing it as often as I'd like. All these articles going on about "look stars are just like you!"... If I wanted to see an average person doing an average thing I'd take a trip to a suburbia mall and people watch (no offense to those of you that live in the suburbs...lord knows I grew up there).
Ok. Rant over.
Moving forward, lets all try to take a cue from the luscious ladies of Hollywood's yesteryears:
To say that I was excited about both the Bulls and Blackhawks victories last night would be an understatement. Lets just say that my night ended in eating an entire package of frozen sausage links- yes, I did heat them up first. My binge eating aside, I am still riding the high from last nights games so I thought I'd share the pep in my step via music!

Just found out that Designer Drugs will be at Lincoln Hall tomorrow night- debating trying to cop a ticket...
It's a sad world when the first thing that pops into my mind as I wrote this post's title is the infamous Paris Hilton video... That aside- I found this 'One Night in Paris' editorial done by Jodi Jones to be a fun discovery. I love a good dose of feathers, pearls, fishnets, and glitter. Although I will say my BFF Pami out in NYC who lives day in and day out in those items might love them a fraction of a bit more, but add 5 inch heels to the mix as well. Seriously, the girl should be a poster child for anything and everything 20s glam- red lips and all.
Anywho- I found this editorial laced with a few bright pops of color to be a welcomed change of pace from all the runway fashion I've been looking at lately. Don't get me wrong I love runway fashion, but I adore when an editorial can whisk you away to a place only limited by your imagination...
One of my all-time favorite songs is this killer Jakwob remix of Ellie Goulding's song "Starry Eyed". Even years later it still pumps me up for anything- whether it be the gym, chores around the house, or even more creative outlets- blogging perhaps?
In my search for the Ellie Goulding mix by Jakwob, I came across one he did of the self proclaimed "Chi-town debutante," a.k.a. Kid Sister's song "Daydreaming". I definitely am a fan of this mix as well:
Happy dreaming whether it be day or night kidlets!
Ooof- what a day it's been! Somehow I feel like I've climbed a mountain when in reality I think I am just lethargic from doing very little- both physically and mentally. I heard via Nylon Mag's twitter feed that there was a metal detector at Vivienne Westwood's show today in London Fashion Week. As the tweet posed- this was a problem for all the fashionistas rocking Burberry:
I grew up letting my [previously] signature curls develop their...signature-ness. "People pay for hair like yours" is what my mother would tell me to ease my complaints that my hair was boring. In my defense, curly hair could only be short or long as far as I knew growing up, and I rocked a shoulder length do (plus or minus a few inches depending on the year).
College hit and I needed a change midway- enter my straightener. Suddenly I was excited to not have to worry about frizzing curls while out, and it gave me freedom to play with hairstyles. It's been a lot of fun rocking the straight hair, but I am finding myself craving my old signature-ness. Now begins my quest to find the best conditioning and curl defining products and procedures out there; if you know of any share the love! I would love to discover a happy medium of straighter, luscious, locks- am I too greedy saying I want my curls, but in a slightly straighter way?
Happy Friday! After a lovely night out at the Rock the Vote event at Rockit Bar & Grill in River North I should be feeling a bit off kilter today but the sunshine and bright blue sky has me feeling anything but! In the fun words of Rihanna in her collaboration with David Guetta, "I just wanna dance!"
Excited to get home and piece together a fun outfit for the evening! Tonight's inspiration:
About to commence my [almost] weekly Wednesday night out and the Spring Fever is hitting hard. Something about the 50+ degrees in Chicago in February is having me wanting to go all out and I find myself wishing I had something new and fabulous to wear. These dresses from their respective designer's Fall 2011 collections would be amazing- so what if it's only Wednesday!
This wonderful sunniness that is upon Chicago right now has me in a happy-go-lucky mood! I can't wait for the weather to get just a smidgen warmer so we can all break out the sandals, light sweaters, and most importantly- the outdoor patio seating!Of course, even when posting up at an outdoor spot with friends we're going to want to look our best. I find Matthew Williamson's take on Pre-Spring 2011 perfect for such occasions:
I think this collection is so perfectly comfortably stylish. I'll be honest- I didn't think I would like orange pants as much as I do after seeing them styled this way. I'm more often than not a skirt/dress wearing type of girl and I'm kind of obsessing over the pants in this collection. Do you love the pants ensembles here as much as I do?
Spring truly is on its way and I cannot wait to hang out around this city! Do you feel the change in the air?
As promised- I am informing anyone in the NYC area of the Loveless New York Theatrical Premiere. The movie will be showing at the reRun Theater in Brooklyn February 18-24th. If you're interested there is a Q&A with the cast and director Ramin Serry Friday, February 18th at 7 and 10pm.
